Liam Lawson was unexpectedly able to make his F1 debut at the Dutch GP. Daniel Ricciardo injured his wrist during Free Practice at Zandvoort, which ruled him out of the weekend. AlphaTauri called up Lawson to fill in for the Australian driver. Now, Lawson has revealed that Max Verstappen gave him a few words of wisdom before his first race in F1.
The Kiwi driver was unprepared for his debut with a limited understanding of the AlphaTauri AT04. Consequently, Lawson was set for a tough weekend at Zandvoort with only one practice session to get to grips with the car. The 21-year-old has a great relationship with Max Verstappen in the Red Bull family. Verstappen decided to give some advice to Liam Lawson before the start of the race.
Lawson mentioned that the two-time world champion urged him to race freely. Verstappen emphasized the need to enjoy his first-ever F1 race to the 21-year-old without overthinking his debut. The Kiwi driver said, as reported by NewstalkZB.co.nz, “I see him all the time, and before the race [in Zandvoort] he gave me some really nice advice as well: Just don’t overthink it and try to enjoy it.”

Liam Lawson out-performed Yuki Tsunoda at the Dutch GP
AlphaTauri has one of the slowest cars on the grid this season. Consequently, Lawson failed to make a mark in Qualifying and put his car on P20 for the main race. The Dutch GP was chaotic and on-track action, with multiple pitstops due to rain. This allowed Lawson to showcase his skills in the challenging situation and bring the car home in P13.
The 21-year-old out-performed teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who finished in P15. Certainly, this was a massive result for Lawson, who substituted Daniel Ricciardo at the last moment. This outing was a testament to the Red Bull junior looking to convince Milton Keynes to get a full-time seat at AlphaTauri the following season.
Liam Lawson shared the advice he received from two-time world champion Max Verstappen. Verstappen told his fellow Red Bull driver to keep his calm and try to have fun on his F1 debut. Fans would agree that this advice did come in handy for Lawson as the 21-year-old managed to get an impressive result for his first race at the pinnacle of motorsport.
