Longest F1 calendar ever: FIA reveals new 2023 schedule with 24 races

Formula 1

As the 2022 season of Formula 1 is drawing to an end with only six races left in the roster, the FIA have revealed the calendar for the next F1 Championship in 2023. There are many little changes that have been made to the calendar and for the first time in the history of this sport, there will be a whopping 24 races as the F1 authorities have added newer circuits to spread the word about F1 to the farthest corners of the world.

There are many things to be happy about in this calendar, like the fact that the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, whose future was hanging in the balance, has indeed been added to the roster as the F1 paddock will reach there on 30th July of next year. Another things that has come to the relief of all the F1 engineers and mechanics is that there will be no triple header in 2023, but some double headers are there, like the one with the Las Vegas and the Abu Dhabi GP at the very end of the year.

At the very first spot on the calendar are three races that will follow the same order of appearance as they did this year. The 2023 season will start off with the Bahrain Grand Prix, then we will go to Jeddah for the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, before jetting off to Albert Park, Australia. Then, making an appearance in the calendars after three long years is the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

The F1 2023 has obviously been created with strict attention to all the little details as it has tried to make everyone quite happy with the way that races have been planned. For those fans who were dejected to hear that Monaco and Spa might not make it on the list of circuits for next year, this calendar has brought some great news. And for those ones who believed newer circuits should be added to the roster, the Las Vegas GP is there.

But one of the races which have failed to make an appearance for the fans in the calendar is the French Grand Prix which was held at Circuit de Paul Ricard last year. But Qatar will make a comeback after debuting as a host in 2021, and Miami will be back too.

Speaking about the new F1 calendar, FIA President Mohammed Bin Sulayem said, “The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale. The addition of new venues and the retention of traditional events underlines the FIA’s sound stewardship of the sport.”

He also said, “I am delighted that we will be able to take Formula 1’s new era of exciting racing, created by the FIA’s 2022 Regulations, to a broader fan base in 2023.”

Another noticeable fact is that the 2023 F1 calendar will not be clashing with the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This has been done to align with the efforts of the World Motorsport Council, who wish to bring maximum popularity for all world championships.
