“Makes me tear up looking at it”: Fans react to Charles Leclerc reposting a fanart of him with the late Jules Bianchi before the Japanese GP
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc
Fans from all around the world flock to watch the Grands Prix where they can witness their favorite racers fight for the top spot in the Standings in person. But they often forget that besides being one of the most thrilling sports out there, F1 is also quite dangerous for the drivers as well. Even though there has been massive improvement in technology and huge upheavals in the rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the drivers, some crashes are absolutely inevitable and can even be fatal. One such incident occured at the Suzuka circuit years ago, and Charles Leclerc posted about it on his Twitter wall today.
The Japanese GP is the first of the remaining five races that are going to be held this year, before the Championship season gets over for F1 2022. And it holds a special importance for Ferrari racer and current WDC rank 2 holder Charles Leclerc since his Godfather Jules Bianchi passed away after succumbing to a horrible accident at the Suzuka International Racing Circuit during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.
Jules Bianchi, who was recruited under the same driving academy as Charles–the Ferrari Drivers’ Academy–was a brilliant racer with a bright future ahead of him. Bianchi was Charles’ elder brother’s best friend, and a figure that he looked up to. Bianchi signed with Marussia F1 team in 2013 to serve as their regular driver, and he was retained for the next season.
But Jules Bianchi could not continue further as he died during the 2014 Japanese GP. Charles posted a fanart in honor of his late Godfather and his followers on Twitter reacted to the picture, assuring the Monegasque that Jules always looks over him.

Jules Bianchi’s death was a shocking event in Formula 1 as he was he first racer to die due to injuries sustained during a Grand Prix since Ayrton Senna‘s death back in 1994. Charles lost his idol in Formula 1, and undoubtedly, he is reminded of Bianchi every time he visits the Japanese Grand Prix. Thus, when he posted the fanart which featured him and Jules Bianchi walking side-by-side, fans poured in their love for the pair.
