Martin Brundle heaps support for Lewis Hamilton’s new F1 film starring Brad Pitt amidst disapproval from Max Verstappen
Martin Brundle expresses his excitement for the upcoming Brad Pitt movie featuring Formula One, agreeing with Lewis Hamilton's views on it.
Martin Brundle has come out in support of Brad Pitt‘s new F1 film, which kicked off its shooting schedule at the British Grand Prix. The seven-time F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton is especially involved in the Apple TV project as one of the producers. For this reason, the Briton has been quite excited to bring the stories of F1 from his career to the audience–and Brundle now agrees with Hamilton. He has expressed his excitement about the new endeavour and believes it to be the “next step” for the sport. But, on the other hand, both of them disagree with Max Verstappen, who still has issues with the new film.
When asked by Motosport.com, Verstappen asserted that he “can’t be forced” to pay attention to the cameras circling Pitt in the pitlane and paddock nearby. While most drivers have been pumped for the movie on their paddock lives, the Dutchman has seemed to be the exception. He was annoyed at the 11th team among those present.
According to Brundle, the forthcoming race in Las Vegas, which has been titled by Red Bull racer Sergio Perez as ‘an extravaganza’, and this untitled movie backed by Lewis Hamilton will be the next phase in the incredible rise in popularity and knowledge of Formula One. He wrote in his SkyF1 column in reference to the movie, “I’ve never seen anything remotely like this in F1.”
The word about Formula One is now reaching every household around the world
Whether it is because of the exotic characteristics of the cars, the drivers’ celebrity status, or the sport’s comprehensive appeal, Formula 1 has gained popularity and witnessed massive increase in viewership. The virality of the hit Netflix series Drive to Survive has also supported the spreading of F1 to the US. Since its recent entry into the US market, the sport will be seeing itself racing in the US 3 times in a single season.
With this sport comes so much popularity and celebrity status that mainstream media houses are going all in to be involved in Formula 1. From Netflix to Apple TV to Paramount (sponsor), every major digital media House in the USA and around the world are eager to be involved in Formula One due to its viewership. Its worldwide audience is 445 million as of 2021 and is growing at 3% per year. It’s apart from the viewers who show up in millions to spectate the sport in the circuits.
