Martin Brundle SLAMS AlphaTauri’s move to safeguard Max Verstappen from penalty, calls it a ‘sporting disappointment’

AlphaTauri is Red Bull’s own junior team. That being said, the team is expected to function as a separate entity trying to win the championship. But, apparently, they are more interested in helping improve Red Bull’s chances of victory. SkySports F1 commentator Martin Brundle has thus criticized AlphaTauri for doing just that following the Singapore GP.

Dutch racer Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s frontman, appeared to impede Yuki Tsunoda’s hot lap during Qualifying at the Singapore GP. The FIA noted the incident and scheduled to hold a hearing regarding a possible penalty against Verstappen. The reigning World Champion escaped the penalty entirely because AlphaTauri didn’t even bother sending a representative to the hearing. Brundle critiques this move.

“Quite how Max Verstappen didn’t also get a penalty for impeding Yuki Tsunoda in qualifying when considering other penalties applied this season was a great surprise to many in the paddock, which I confidently predict includes the team and driver in question,” said Brundle, as per Express. The commentator called the whole incident, “A sporting disappointment.”

Mercedes apparently didn’t join Lewis Hamilton’s podium celebration

Lewis was seen sitting alone next to his W14 as Lando and Sainz celebrated with their respective teams. Many eagle-eyed fans spotted how Lewis Hamilton wasn’t too high-spirited. They claimed that his team didn’t even show up for their driver’s podium. When the broadcast footage was checked, the fans seemed to be correct in their assumptions. Mercedes were notably absent from the podium as McLaren and Ferrari celebrated their drivers.

This isn’t the first time Mercedes have been absent from Lewis’ podium celebrations. Fans recalled the Australian GP and resurfaced the video of Lewis asking someone for Mercedes’ whereabouts as he finished on the podium. Russel also crashed out of the Australian Grand Prix.

It is unknown whether logistical reasons behind Russell’s crashes prevented the team from celebrating with their other driver. However, It seems quite disrespectful to the 196 time Podium winner, who’s played such a big part in bringing Mercedes to the forefront of our sport.
