Martin Brundle warns Ferrari about signing Lewis Hamilton, claims he won’t ‘sort their issues out’

Things are not looking up for Lewis Hamilton at the moment. The 103-times Grand Prix winner had his first and only winless season last year since he failed to attain victory at a single race in the 2022 F1 season. Even now, with five races having already been held for this year, Lewis has managed to get only one podium win. And the fans of Lewis Hamilton have blamed Mercedes for the 7-time F1 World Champ’s upsetting career low. The Silver Arrows have not been able to provide him with a fast car that is worthy of winning the Briton his eighth title, and thus, they want Lewis to shift to another team.

At a time like this, reports from the Italian news outlet La Gazetta dello Sport has revealed that Ferrari have put an offer on Lewis Hamilton’s table. The Maranello outfit has allegedly agreed to bring Lewis to Italy with a $50M deal. And this has taken the F1 world by storm as everyone wants to give their opinions on whether the 38-year-old should make the switch or not. In SkySports F1 pundit Martin Brundle‘s case, the former racer believes Lewis Hamilton would not be bringing any new advantage to the team, as Ferrari’s problems are not due to their drivers.

Ahead of the Monaco GP, Brundle spoke on whether Ferrari would be right in hiring Lewis Hamilton with such a massive amount of money when they should have spent those funds on further developing their car. He said, “Ferrari’s problem at the moment is not their driver line-up, it’s their car, it’s not fast enough. So that’s where they need to focus. Lewis Hamilton can’t just turn up and sort Ferrari’s issues out single-handedly by pressing the throttle pedal and turning the steering wheel. It’s a much bigger plan they need there.”

Former-racer-turned-F1-pundit Martin Brundle has been attached to the sport for a long time, and has seen Lewis Hamilton grow into a Champion at Mercedes. And he believes, there is no need for him to shift his base to Ferrari now. He said, “I know where the rumour came from, it’s all been a bit mischievous, but I can’t tell you that. It makes no sense for him to step away from Mercedes-Benz at this time with something going on in the future.“

Meanwhile, when Ferrari racer Charles Leclerc was asked to put forward his two bits on Lewis joining the team as his partner, he welcomed the idea. But he also said he has no qualms about Carlos Sainz, the other Scuderia racer who might be replaced should Lewis come to Maranello. This time in Monaco, it is Charles Leclerc’s home race and the 25-year-old wants to perform well despite his disappointments in the earlier races of this year.
