Max Verstappen has been reported to be one of the drivers who would be taking a grid penalty at the Italian GP. This would be the reigning world champion’s second penalty after taking one at the Belgian GP. We saw the Dutchman start from P14 on the grid but cruised to win the race. Most of the people in the paddock were really surprised to see the level of dominance by the Red Bull.

Monza is one of the circuits which is low downforce and therefore will help the superior engine power of that RB-18. The one problem will the circuit of Monza is that it doesn’t have a lot of overtaking opportunities despite having a number of long straights. This will make it difficult for all the drivers who are planning to take a grid penalty at the Italian GP weekend.

The other drivers who are planning to take a grid penalty are Hamilton, Perez, Tsunoda, Bottas and Carlos Sainz. What this will mean that it will be a mixed up grid at the start of the race. What this will do is that it will present Charles Leclerc and George Russell with a proper opportunity to win the race. This will delight the Tifosi who’ll be cheering their drivers on.

Chris Medland tweeted, “Grid penalties this weekend for (and I think these are the drops):

Verstappen (10 places)

Perez (10 places)

Hamilton (Back of grid)

Sainz (15 places)

Bottas (Back of grid)

Tsunoda (Back of grid)

This would definitely make for a really exciting weekend as it would give an opportunity for other teams to come into the play. Max Verstappen and Red Bull is the duo to beat but their job has definitely been made harder with these penalties.
