Oracle Red Bull Racing has an interesting addition to its team for the 2023 season. Australian F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo who previously had a 4-year stint at Red Bull, was signed as the third driver for the Austrian team’s 2023 campaign. He joined their two times World Champion Max Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez at Milton Keynes.
Verstappen and Ricciardo are familiar with each other. The duo had some of the most hilarious and entertaining PR campaigns in the sport’s history, and the Kendo challenge 2017 ranks high on the list. During that year’s Japanese Grand Prix race week, Verstappen, and Ricciardo went to Konnou Dojo in Shibuya. It was for a fun training session in the 300-year-old martial art of Kendo. It is a widely practiced martial arts form from Japan with the primary goal of molding the mind, and body and cultivating a vigorous spirit.
The video started with the drivers putting on their Kendo uniforms. They were ready with their bamboo swords for the lessons. Verstappen and Ricciardo were given 3 lessons, starting with “Respect”, and then mastering the “Technique”, the drivers had a lot of fun, and Verstappen giggled and said, “Oh my god”, and Ricciardo screamed, “Yaah”.
The video was enjoyable and ended with the third lesson, “Let’s Kendo”. The duo was laughing, screaming, and creating quite a ruckus. It was chaotic, and the drivers brought out their goofy side. They had spent quality time together, engaging in various activities with the team. Whether it was for a promotional video or off-track shenanigans, they enjoyed it thoroughly.
