The two-time world champion Max Verstappen has dropped a truth bomb. He recently revealed the name of his best friend on the grid. Of course, it is Lando Norris, the McLaren driver. Despite their friendship, Verstappen and Norris have a different journey in the sport. While Verstappen is gunning for his third world championship, Norris aims to get his maiden win.
Max Verstappen has always praised Norris. He explained that the McLaren driver used to be overwhelmed when he joined the grid, but he is not anymore. Norris is now an integral part of the team. The McLaren team and the fans have expectations of the Briton. This is a huge responsibility for Norris to lead the team, as he has a new teammate, Oscar Piastri. Verstappen believes that his “best friend” Norris is one of the most talented drivers in Formula One.
Max Verstappen told Daily Mail, “I get on really well with Lando because he is just himself and normal. He is my best friend on the grid. “He loves what he is doing. I could see clearly from years ago in go-karting that he was very quick, though we never raced against each other. Everything just came to him really naturally as a driver.”

“Good performances were not just one-offs or hit-and-miss, he was always up at the front. So it was clear he was always going to be here. Some people are quick but don’t know why or how to explain it.” Verstappen and Norris spend time away from the track as well. There were instances where the Briton flew home with Verstappen and his girlfriend. The duo often plays video games together. Their friendship has grown over the years.
The Dutchman feels that Norris has more to offer in Formula One. He acknowledges Norris’ growth in the sport and the gradual improvement in his performance. Verstappen stated that Lando Norris has more confidence now, and he knows what he is doing with McLaren. Norris signed a deal with his team until 2025. The 23-year-old stated that he believed in his team and hence made a long-term commitment.
Last season, Lando Norris finished seventh in the driver’s championship. He was the only driver besides Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes to get on the podium. While this was a good sign for McLaren, they started the 2023 season on the back foot. The team will bring upgrades and try to find a solution. Verstappen is certain Norris will get his maiden win soon and has high hopes for his friend.
