The Brazilian Grand Prix saw the FIA introduce new regulations for out-laps in the qualifying sessions to clear the pit lane. The decision came after issues and penalties were given after chaotic qualifying sessions for the Singapore GP and Mexico City GP. Like many others, this regulation did not involve consultation with the drivers.

Max Verstappen said he finds introducing so many regulations excessive and unnecessary, especially when the Drivers’ Association is not involved in their development. Verstappen considered the abundant rules too many for a team and driver to accommodate. Other drivers have expressed similar opinions recently.

Sometimes it has too many rules that they have to take into account. And too many politics as well to make a change or a decision. Of course, I would the GPDA to have a say. I would like to be the owner of F1 if I could, but that’s not the real world.

Haas F1 tried to take advantage of these regulations, as they sent a request to the FIA to penalize drivers post-race for track limits, though they were not informed during the race. The FIA rejected this appeal, though they acknowledged the need for better and more streamlined policing of track limits and race control.

Max Verstappen does not want to be Penelope Kvyat’s father
