Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, is currently the hottest property in F1. He has been operating at an extremely high level for quite some time and ahead of the 2024 season, he has taken the time to talk about breaking Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher‘s seven world-titles record.
Max Verstappen has so far in his career amassed three world championships and is seen by many, as the one who could break Hamilton and Schumacher’s record. However, he has recently made it known that he will require a bit of luck to break the mighty record.
While talking about the same, he recently said, as reported by The Times:
If it happens, it happens. But you need to be lucky to be in a great car for a longer period of time. You’re very dependent on the material you have. When I won my first title, I said, everything that comes next is a bonus because, realistically, in F1, I’ve achieved everything that I wanted to achieve.
Looking at the reaction of the 26-year-old, it seems that he believes whether he would be able to break the seven-world title record would very much depend on the machinery he will have in the upcoming years. Verstappen thinks that it would not be possible if Red Bull underperforms in terms of delivering potent machinery continuously.
Max Verstappen is the man to beat heading into 2024
While Max Verstappen has emphasized luck to break the seven world titles record, he is the out-and-out favorite to secure the 2024 F1 world championship. Much of the hype that has built around him is because of the way he performed last year.
During the 2023 season of the sport, Verstappen amassed a brilliant 19 grand prix wins out of the possible 22 and was also in the process, able to lift his third world championship. His teammate, Sergio Perez, was nowhere near him despite having the same car.
