Max Verstappen namedrops ace Dutch handball player Kaj Geenen as he claims the national-level athlete is his cousin
Max Verstappen recently revealed that his family does not just have racers but also a handball player amongst them.

Current Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen hails from one of the most prominent sports families in all of Netherlands, and that is not a new fact for the fans. The Verstappen clan has been a famous name amount the Dutch not just because of the incredible heights that Max has achieved at only 26 years of age. His father Jos Verstappen has been a successful Formula 1 racer who went up against the likes of Michael Schumacher and even Ayrton Senna during his career. Despite never winning a single Grand Prix, Jos had captured three podium places during his F1 days.
Max Verstappen’s mother Sophie Kumpen was also a talented racer. During a recent interview, Max talked about how Kumpen’s marriage to his father somehow halted her rise in the motorsports world. However, Jos and Sophie’s talents have only come together in forging the brilliant F1 driver that Max Verstappen is today. But it turns out, his family has one more athlete who is not related to the world of racing at all.
During one of his off-season Twitch streaming sessions, Max Verstappen was playing the F1 video game on his simulator when he talked about his nephew Kaj Geenen. Geenen is a 20-year-old handball player who currently plays under the Dutch team for the European Championship. Geenen also plays in the club-level for the German team VfL Lübeck-Schwartau, as reported by GPblog com.

Max Verstappen’s immense talent behind the wheels and his hard-working nature has been an inspiration to many. The Dutchman is known for his calm yet competitive attitude on the racetracks and also his fun-loving, goofy disposition off of it. And as it appears, Max is also an inspiration to his own nephew who plays for the Dutch national handball team.

In other news, Max Verstappen is currently back from his Switzerland trip for working on the Red Bull car ahead of the 2024 season. The 26-year-old went on his off-season vacation alongwith his partner Kelly Piquet and her daughter Penelope. While Kelly has now jetted off to Paris for the Fashion Week, Max is currently at home looking after five-year-old Penelope and streaming his F1 gameplay sessions on Twitch.
