Red Bull had revealed their car on Thursday at their Milton Keynes base. Multiple key Red Bull figures were present at the event alongside Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez and gave their views on the 2024 challenger. People speculated that the RB20 was inspired by none other than Mercedes’s 2023 concept. However, the reigning champion dismissed such claims and stated that he is happy with the team’s new direction.
Last year, the Austrian manufacturer was in a whole other class and dominated the season from the get-go. Teams had changed their cars to Red Bull’s aerodynamic concept and unlocked pace from various areas. Despite that, the reigning champions have gone down the route that the Silver Arrows had abandoned and have doubled down on it. The Dutchman was taken by surprise but had faith in the team.
I would still call it a Red Bull style. But I know what you mean. I'm quite happy with the direction that they chose.Max Verstappen said as reported by express.co.uk
The three-time champion called it a ‘Red Bull style’, but the car had incorporated several key elements from its rivals. The car had similar side pods as the W14 of the previous year and even featured a hump that only the Silver Arrows had used earlier. Adrian Newey must have worked hard and found more time to be saved through this. The 26-year-old has firm faith and prepares himself for the onset of the season.
Will Sergio Pérez mount a challenge to Max Verstappen this year?
Last season, Verstappen had dominated the whole grid from the onset and had been in a league of his own. However, his teammate was nowhere to be seen usually and barely finished as a runner-up after a season-long fight with Lewis Hamilton.
Recently, with the launch of RB20, the Mexican has stated that he would also be a title contender this year. The 34-year-old had been out of his prime for quite a time and only won two races last year.
The six-time winner is optimistic and would be bidding for the title against his teammate. Subsequently, it may also be necessary for the Mexican to up his game as a fast honey badger of Daniel Ricciardo would be on the hunt for his seat at Red Bull.
