Red Bull Racing F1 pilot Max Verstappen has a fair amount of experience racing in the rain. However, these type of weather conditions have their own set of problems: Racing single seater vehicles in the rains always has it’s risks. Such was highlighted a few days back when Formula regional racer Dilano van’t Hoff unfortunately lost his life in an accident at Spa. Due to the rain, the visibility decreases massively.
Due to the lack of visibility in the rain, a multi car collision occurred which led to the young Dutchman losing his life in a head on collision. Rain and Spa don’t really go well together and it was also observed at the Belgian GP sprint race which was affected by the rain. Max Verstappen has gone on to state that there will always be visibility problems in wet weather conditions. The FIA has been planning to introduce wheel covers to decrease spray.
Here is what Max Verstappen had to say about the whole situation. “It’s very difficult to solve these things. You will always suffer from it, and you will always have spray,” Verstappen said after Saturday’s sprint. “Wheel covers on a Formula 1 car won’t make a big difference. The safety car also gave too much spray towards me. On the motorway you actually have the same problem,” he continued .
Max Verstappen uses Nascar’s example to prove his point about racing in the rain

“Of course, certain accidents happen that have a bad outcome and then people naturally start to talk about it more. But if you look at it that way, you can’t really race in the rain any more because there will always be problems with visibility.
“That would a shame. Then it becomes like NASCAR, they don’t drive in the rain either,” Verstappen stated. The Dutchman compared F1’s actions to those of Nascar who are reluctant to race in the rain at Ovals.
With Formula 1’s summer break getting underway, the drivers and staff will have 3 weeks to sit back and relax before the F1 circus starts again. The Dutch GP will take place at the end of August where Max Verstappen will get the chance to equal Sebastian Vettel’s record. It will be interesting to see how far the Red Bull driver can take his dominance this year.
