Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, has nothing to prove to anyone but himself, and he is quite satisfied with his performance in Formula One. With his statistics, he is considered one of the modern-day greats of the sport. Verstappen has two World Championships, 35 wins, and 77 podiums. The Red Bull driver holds excellent records at this young age.

The Dutchman stated that all his goals in Formula One had been accomplished already. The number of titles doesn’t matter to him. While his first title came controversially, he dominated the grid to win the second. Red Bull was the strongest team last season and could withstand a powerful start from Ferrari before going on outclassing them consistently.

Verstappen, in an interview with Racingnews365 spoke about his success and pointed out that if he is retired now, he will make it as a happy man as he has given his all to win the titles and races. He said, “I have already achieved more than I could have ever dreamed of. Honestly, I never think about where I am among the ‘biggest’ with championships and victories and so on. I’m just doing my job.” The Dutchman is not the one to look at numbers. He has gone up against several talented drivers, especially the seven-time world champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton.

The two-time world champion has a contract with Red Bull till 2028. It is no doubt he will compete for wins and even championships. He aims to give it his all and be satisfied with himself at the end of the day. “If I stop driving in Formula 1 and ask myself in a few years’ time, Have I given everything? and the answer to that is yes, then I can say to myself I am satisfied.”

Verstappen is quite realistic about the highs and the lows in Formula One. “In the end, you lose more than you win, so it’s hard to keep up. You have to accept that, because Formula 1 is like that. I once drove in midfield, and then you dealt with it. It’s a learning process until you get to a potentially winning team, which I luckily saw happen”. His perspective on this is undeniably true. Time and time again, we have seen this happen to other drivers, Daniel Ricciardo was successful with Red Bull, and then he moved to a midfield team.

While the 25-year-old spoke his mind, his fans have been terrified at the thought of his retirement. To be fair, these statements have also been mentioned in other interviews, which raised speculation among the Red Bull patriots. Though it might feel like these are subtle hints of retirement, it is far from that, given his age and a long-term contract with his team. The 2023 season might just be another successful one for him, or it could go the other direction if Mercedes are back fighting for wins. One might not know what to expect as the season draws near.
