The 2023 world champion Max Verstappen has once again emerged victorious in yet another Sprint race. Verstappen has now amassed a total of four sprint race victories. But the champion has been very vocal about disliking the sprint weekend. Hence, the Dutchman has reiterated his dislike of sprint weekend.

The three-time world champion claimed that he isn’t interested in any changes and that he prefers the older racing format. The Dutchman pleaded F1 to use the older racing format when he was quizzed on changes that he would like to the current state of Formula 1.

I’m not interested in any changes – I don’t like it [the format]. Just a normal race weekend, please, thank you.

Verstappen told media including racingnews365.com.

Verstappen made some bold claims about the sport’s greed for money and questioned the sudden and unnecessary changes to the sport. He reclaimed his dislike for this action from F1. Subsequently, the reigning world champion claimed that F1 was clueless about what to do in the sport to make it interesting. The 26-year-old insisted that F1 is ‘making stuff up’ regarding the sprint racing format.

Why does the sport suddenly have to be different? Other sports don't change their rules all the time either. I don't get all that. It's all about making as much money as possible. I don't like it at all. They just do whatever they want. I think it's just making stuff up because they don't really know what to do out, instead of just keeping it normal.

Toto Wolff and Sergio Perez suggested a few changes

The other Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, also joined Verstappen in criticizing the sprint weekend. The Mexican claimed that F1 was not achieving what it hoped to achieve with the sprint weekend. The veteran talked about potential changes to Sprint weekend to make it more interesting for the fans and drivers. He proposed a ‘reverse the grid’ system with sprint weekends.

Even the team boss Toto Wolff, called for canceling all sprint races from the next season. Wolff also expressed his dislike over the sprint weekend and suggested a similar route as Sergio Perez. The Austrian boss insisted that entertainment should follow sport rather than vice-versa.

With the majority of the grid disliking the new sprint format, the new idea will probably be scrapped by the next season. The older sprint format may be introduced to the sport and make the weekends more interesting. Or, F1 could come up without something very new for the grid to enjoy.
