The Red Bull F1 team has a seat available for the 2025 season of the sport. Sergio Perez is yet to receive a contract extension from Christian Horner and company and amidst this, Max Verstappen has claimed that it will be weird for him to see Fernando Alonso as his next year’s teammate.
The former two-time world champion is as fast as ever and has impressed one and all since making his F1 return. He has been performing exceptionally well since joining Aston Martin and has been tipped by many to join the mighty Bulls.
However, despite the hype, Max Verstappen is not too thrilled about it.
If you ask me, I would find it strange to contract a driver of 42. Red Bull has always had the tradition of training young drivers themself. It already deviated from that trend with the signing of Sergio Perez, and even more so with a 42-year-old driver. I can get on well with Fernando, that's not it. But I also look at the future of the team. Ultimately, it is up to them to decide who drives where.Max Verstappen said in an interview with GPBlog
The 26-year-old has made it quite clear that since 2021, Red Bull has deviated from its policy of promoting young talent from its junior team. He feels that the outfit needs to go back to it in the coming years and thus, does not feel too excited about the prospect of having Alonso alongside him in 2025.
Max Verstappen believes he is ‘everyone’s boss’
While Verstappen has admitted that it wouldn’t be a good idea for Red Bull to hire Fernando Alonso next year, he has also made it clear that he really does not care! The Dutchman genuinely believes that whoever the Austrian outfit signs for 2025, he’ll be the one leading the team.
Max Verstappen has won three consecutive world championships since 2021.
I don't care who sits next to me. I said that to the team as well. I always assume myself and in my view I am everyone's boss.Max Verstappen said in the same interview
The 26-year-old has been on a warpath at the pinnacle of motor racing under the current set of F1 regulations. He has amassed a lot of accolades and has already won two Grand Prix out of the possible three this year.
Max Verstappen has been with Red Bull since 2016 and currently has a long-term contract with them. His teammate, Sergio Perez, could be ousted as the end of this year and there are quite a few solid options available to Red Bull for 2025. The upcoming months could make the picture a bit clearer regarding the second seat on the Austrian outfit.
