The Red Bull saga has been going on since the beginning of the 2024 season. With reports suggesting that Christian Horner wishes to take over the team fully. All such things have led to rumors about Chief Technology Officer, Adrian Newey and three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen‘s possible exit.
F1 journalist and former Ferrari man, Peter Windsor, believes that Max Verstappen would only move to a different team if Adrian Newey moves as well. Windsor is of the opinion that if Newey were to leave Red Bull, that would lead to a massive gap in the team, leading to a possible departure for Verstappen.
Moreover, Windsor advised Red Bull to keep Adrian Newey in the team, if they want to ensure Verstappen services in the future.
For me, everything about Max has to do completely and completely with Adrian Newey. Max Verstappen is not stupid and will only go somewhere if Adrian stops going or goes somewhere else. If Adrian changes, [Red Bull] would be a completely different team anyway, a new team. Red Bull would be a completely different team very quickly. So the key is Adrian, always.
Peter Windsor said on his F1 live chat
Windsor also added how the 26-year-old isn’t stupid and should consider moving away from Red Bull if Adrian Newey were to leave due to the massive overhaul that will follow. The Milton Keynes-based team should prioritize keeping Newey in order to keep hold of Verstappen for many years to come.
Peter Windsor’s take on Max Verstappen’s possible move to Mercedes
The internal problems at Red Bull have led to a lot of rumors about Max Verstappen’s possible move to Mercedes. Moreover, Toto Wolff has also spoken about how Verstappen’s move to the Brackley-based team has to happen in the upcoming years.
Peter Windsor believes Max Verstappen should only move to Mercedes if Red Bull’s CTO, Adrian Newey moves there as well.
I believe that Adrian thinks, yes, please, let’s go on to the next thing, I want to live my life and not worry about ridiculous and unimportant things. This is what Newey probably suspects, Windsor suspects. Everything looks like he continues normally. And will not everyone believe that it will continue normally? I am sure that Max will not go to Mercedes, except when Adrian Newey goes to Mercedes.
Peter Windsor further added on his F1 live chat
The Briton thinks Newey will probably think about his future at Red Bull soon if the internal problems aren’t resolved. The 64-year-old wants to concentrate on working rather than dealing with ridiculous issues. Only time will tell whether the Verstappen decides to leave Red Bull for Mercedes in the future.
