With the 2021 rules and regulations being pushed to 2022, we got to witness the new era of F1. Looking at the championship standings, it is obvious that Max Verstappen and Red Bull got the best out of them as they are currently leading in both the driver’s and constructors standings. With the new rules and regulations came new problems. Porpoising became an issue for almost every team from the start of the season.

After half a season, it is evident that most of the teams have managed to find a solution to reduce the porpoising. Max Verstappen went on to question the FIA for their need to impose restrictions on porpoising in Formula 1. It was evident that out of all the teams, Mercedes seemed to be the one who suffered the most from porpoising. Their problems grew to such an extent where both the drivers encountered neck pains. It came to a point where Lewis Hamilton had severe neck pain which caused him to question whether he could be medically fit to take part on the Canadian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen thinks that the new rules and regulations to counter porpoising are a bit unnecessary as most of the teams have found a solution to it including the team (Mercedes) that asked for a rule change. The FIA had also announced further technical changes for next year to combat the problem more extensively. The reigning world champion gave his thoughts on the whole situation.

“At the moment I don’t think it’s very clear how much it’s going to hurt different kind of teams,” said Max Verstappen when asked about the impact of the changes on the performance of the car.

“But I think it’s gone a bit over the top with rule changes because I think already the last races you could see that most of the teams had it more or less under control. And also the teams who actually asked for it had it much more under control,” he continued.

Many fans think that it is unfair on the teams that have figured out a way to counter porpoising to again possibly introduce updates which might slow them down. All because another team who couldn’t find a solution to the problem decided that the FIA should intervene. Was Mercedes in the wrong for doing this?
