Despite 4 races being left in the 2022 F1 season, Max Verstappen sealed his second championship at the Japanese Grand Prix. The race was red-flagged after 3 laps as the conditions at the track worsened. Many expected the race to be canceled, but it was resumed with only 40 mins remaining.
Max Verstappen crossed the line to take the win at the Suzuka circuit, followed by Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. However, Charles Leclerc suffered a 5-second penalty for going off track, giving Sergio Perez the P2 position and Max Verstappen the world title.
The fans have loved every moment of Verstappen’s domination this season and cannot wait to see more of his performances in the future. Despite having a rocky start to the season, Verstappen has made an extraordinary comeback and seized his second consecutive world championship.
Max Verstappen says his winning the world title at Suzuka was unexpected
The result itself wasn’t surprising for anyone, except maybe the 24-year-old Dutchman himself.
Verstappen recently appeared in an interview to say that his winning the championship at Suzuka was unexpected due to extraordinary conditions under which the race resumed and the fact that they could only do less than 75 percent of the total number of laps which meant that full points wouldn’t have been awarded for this race.
“The first one is a little more emotional, the second one is more beautiful. We’re leading the constructors so we want to focus on that, to secure that,” said Verstappen.
However, due to extenuating circumstances, FIA awarded full points this race and in turn, gave the Dutchman his second World Championship.
