Max Verstappen has gone on to absolutely dominate in the 2023 F1 season. In a bizarre way, Red Bull has won every single race this year. They seem to be in impeccable form and have been making minimal mistakes. With Sergio Perez bagging two wins in 2023, Max on the other hand has 11 wins under his belt. FP1 was a smooth sailing for Max and who logged in 31 laps.
The Dutchman topped the first Free Practice session, while Sergio Perez was P3 having recorded 30 laps. FP2 on the other hand was a bit eventful for the Red Bull boys. The team has been fined £500 as Max Verstappen was caught speeding in the Monza pit-lane. The pits have a speed limit of 80 kph (49.7mph). Max, on the other hand, clocked in at a speed of 84.8 kph (52.6mph).
This in turn led to the Dutchman and his team getting fined for their actions. It was not an easy session for Max Verstappen who could only manage to finish fifth fastest in Free Practice 2. He got a lot of traffic on his fastest lap and throughout the session. He had pushed his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase to go for another attempt but was unable to improve on his lap due to his teammate.
Sergio Perez brought out a Red Flag late into FP2
Sergio Perez was the third quickest driver in the second practice session. However, the Mexican driver caused a late Red Flag leading to Max not being able to improve on his times. Perez spun off and beached his RB-19 at the Parabolica turn. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz topped the session giving a slight sense of hope to the Tifosi.
Last weekend, Max Verstappen equaled Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive race victories. Coming into Monza, there will be added pressure as he could break the longstanding record. It will be interesting to see what happens as the sessions progress. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have a lot pressure racing on Ferrari’s home track in front of the Tifosi.
