Carlos Sainz has no ‘hard feelings’ towards Daniel Ricciardo after kind gesture post Imola crash

McLaren driver, Daniel Ricciardo is known all around the F1 paddock as one of the most charismatic, charming, and gentlemanly driver amongst all the racers on the grid. And once again, Ricciardo testified to the fact that he always puts his friendships off the race track before his rivalries on the track, by apologizing to Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz for their horrible Imola crash.
Last Sunday, the Main Race in Imola during the Emiglia Romania Grand Prix could have been a very special one for Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard had recently signed a new contract renewal with the Scuderia and he was racing in Italy, Ferrari’s home country. This year, the SF-75 BY Ferrari has been highly regarded as one of the fastest cars on the track and he could very well have won the race after starting from P4 position.
But luck was not in Carlos Sainz’s favour as he suffered a terrible crash with McLaren recruit Daniel Ricciardo right at the beginning of the race and had to retire due to damages to his car during the first lap itself. But Daniel’s car had less damage, so he did rejoin the racing pack at the back of the grid, after his mechanics took a look at his car in the pits.
“We all thanked him for the gesture” : Carlos Sainz commends Daniel Ricciardo for apologizing to his Ferrari team in person

After the disastrous race in Imola on Sunday, Carlos Sainz went back to his pit for the rest of the evening while Daniel Ricciardo finished his run. After the Grand Prix had ended, even though Daniel’s hopes of getting some Championship points after his P6 finish in the Sprint Race were crushed due to the crash with Sainz, he quickly went to the Ferrari pit.
At the Scuderia’s station, he apologized to Carlos Sainz for pushing so hard that his car came in contact with Sainz’s Ferrari, and he also apologized to Sainz’s mechanic team. Speaking about the gesture, Carlos Sainz said, “It says much about Daniel as an athlete and as a sportsman that immediately after a race, where you could see he’s had a tough one, the first thing that he did was come in to the Ferrari box and apologise to me.“
“There were the whole mechanics there with me and we all thanked him for the gesture. So that’s why there’s no hard feelings with Daniel’s because of what happened.”
