McLaren expects consistency from Lando Norris: “Too early to compare him to Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton”

Lando Norris with Zak Brown

Lando Norris has been the silver lining for McLaren in an otherwise bleak start to the season. McLaren were the first ones to spot the talent of this young Brit and didn’t waste any time to sign him. It’s been a signing and a half for the British manufacturers as Lando Norris has delivered some impressive performance in the papaya orange of McLaren. Despite McLaren’s inability to provide him a pacey, he has still been able to grind out some impressive performances.

McLaren’s prodigy already has 6 podiums and a grand total of 354 points to his name in his first 67 entries. What makes this stat more impressive is that it has come for a midfield battling team. Lando has picked up where he left off last season. While Daniel Ricciardo has struggled to fire up that MCL-36, Lando Norris has fought through adversity to keep McLaren in the hunt for that 3rd place.

It’ll not be unfair to speak of him in the same breath as Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. But, it’ll be better to wait and see if this talented youngster deal with the pressure of driving a top of the grid team and produce the goods week in and week out. We have seen a lot of talented drivers go down the drain in the past after taking the plunge. That’s why Andreas Seidl recently said, “Too early to compare him to Schumacher or Hamilton.”

But, it’s both a dream and a challenge for Zak Brown to see Lando Norris become a championship in McLaren colors. McLaren CEO has been very impressed with the boy wonder from the get go. In one of his interviews, he said, “He is, in my opinion, as good as anyone in Formula 1. Unbelievably fast. But… there are a lot of fast drivers in Formula 1.

“I think the part I’m most impressed with with Lando is how few mistakes he makes. And his mistakes are small, a track limit, locked up a brake; you haven’t seen him many times put the car in the fence.

“I think as far as pure natural talent, I think he has as much as anyone in Formula 1,” as reported by formula1.

Nobody can deny the sheer talent this wonder boy possesses but if he wants to make a place in the history books, he will have to do it consistently or it might become a case of ‘what if’ with him.
