Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team topped the timesheets during the second free practice session at the Canadian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton completed 30 laps and set the fastest time with a 1.13.718 on softs. His teammate George Russell was two-tenths behind him, making it a 1-2 for Mercedes. However, due to the weather conditions, the session ended.
F1 faced problems with the CCTV equipment and could not resume the session in FP1. Hence, the teams relied on FP2 to gather data. They were on different run plans with soft and medium compound tires. In the end, it was the Mercedes drivers who stole the show. The fans are elated with the FP2 result and thrilled to have Mercedes on top again. This comes after Red Bull and Max Verstappen‘s dominance in the first seven rounds of the season.
The F1 fans shared their opinions on social media. Some even went to the extent to say, “Verstappen era is over.” The fans referred to the Red Bull driver Verstappen’s strong results in previous races. He is the current championship leader. However, Verstappen and his teammate, Sergio Perez, finished P6 and P8 in FP2, respectively. It is safe to say that fans are rooting for the Mercedes duo to dominate the Canadian GP.
