Mercedes fans can breathe a sigh of relief after latest Toto Wolff revelation

Toto Wolff

Toto Wolff the Mercedes team Principal after the end of the Canadian Grand Prix has indicated that the team has found a way to get a handle on the porpoising issue and that they are now completely on top of it.

Mercedes managed to come away from Canada with an impressive 3rd and 4th place finish and the team boss believes that it is an indication that their previous woes are behind them.

However, Wolff did say that after Canada the only problem that they still have with their car is stiffness. The German feels that the W13 is still very stiff when it comes to riding on kerbs.

A solution to the problem in the eyes of the German is to lower the height of the kerbs so that the impact can be reduced while riding over them and also by making the tracks smoother going forwards into the season.

While Wolff is looking for solutions on the outside, there are still issues with the W13 as the low floor on the car has impacted their performance severely this season and they should be having a look at that too.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have been very vocal about the ill effects of porpoising ever since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and their rigorous comments have forced the FIA to come into action and they have indicated that they will come up with something definitive soon.

On Thursday the FIA came up with a derivative to have a new floor bar as a possible aid against porpoising and to everyone’s surprise, Mercedes had the new floor on their car during Friday practice.

People up and down the grid were surprised at the brisk pace of Mercedes to get the floor ready and people like Helmut Marko and Mattia Binotto criticized the FIA for their sudden ‘technical derivatives.

A meeting between the FIA and the teams is slated to take place this week and the agenda is going to be to further deliberate on the porpoising issue.

Toto’s claim of getting on top of porpoising will be put to the test during the upcoming British Grand Prix and it would be fascinating to see how the Mercedes team would go in Britain given it’s the home Grand Prix of both their star drivers.
