Lewis Hamilton had turned the F1 landscape on its head when it was revealed that he would be joining Ferrari. This has left the Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, in a tough situation to fill the remaining seat in the team. However, the team now looks set on promoting their junior driver to the team for the 2025 season.
Kimi Antonelli is an Italian driver who is a Mercedes Junior driver and will be participating in this year’s F2 campaign. The Mercedes board of directors have firm faith in the 17-year-old, as he is skipping the F3 series entirely and jumping to the F2 championship. The Italian is the main contender for replacing the outgoing Briton and will be giving his all this year.
It is more likely that they[Mercedes] will make a radical decision. The radical will either to be to bring in a hot rookie, someone who they will really get behind. He[Toto Wolff] wants a driving line-up that can win titles every single year.Matt Gallagher said as reported by betway.com
The Silver Arrows are more likely to take a radical decision in reaction to an outgoing seven-time champion. Antonelli has been regarded as the ‘Next Verstappen’, and the team would be betting on his F2 campaign to warrant him a seat with the team.
Who Martin Brundle thinks can replace an outgoing Lewis Hamilton?
Martin Brundle is an extremely famous F1 commentator and expert, who has seen multiple driver transfers during his time. The Briton has a list of drivers who can replace Hamilton.

They’ve got Esteban Ocon I suspect that they want. They’ve got access to Carlos Sainz, maybe Fernando Alonso, they’ve got Mick Schumacher in their gang and any number of other drivers.Matin Brundle said as reported by gpfans.com
The 64-year-old thinks that Esteban Ocon, who is a driver managed by Mercedes itself is on the target. However, the Briton also feels that many other drivers alongside the Frenchman also stand a chance.
Subsequently, the team are focusing on developing their current car and maximising its potential. However, the team have a deadline to reveal their second driver for the 2025 season hanging on their heads and will be unveiling it soon.
