It was recently revealed that Lewis Hamilton would be leaving Mercedes at the end of this year to move to Ferrari. This has left the Silver Arrows in a tough position to find the Briton’s replacement. Now, rumours suggest that Alpine driver Pierre Gasly has his sights on the second seat at Mercedes.
The French driver made his debut back in 2017 with Toro Rosso, and since then his career trajectory has been filled with ups and downs. The 28-year-old was a part of the Red Bull family and left them in 2022 in favour of Alpine. However, with the shock departure of the seven-time champion, Gasly has been talked up to to replace him at Brackley.
According to F1.com, talks are anticipated between the two as the Frenchman seems to be the perfect replacement. Subsequently, his teammate Esteban Ocon, who is a Mercedes managed driver is also in the run for it but Gasly seems to have the upper hand.
What are Pierre Gasly’s views on the speculations?
Gasly is one of the most respected drivers on the grid and has an ability to balance his car on a thin knife edge. The Frenchman’s contract is set to expire this season and would take a look on all the options he has for his future.
It's the last year of the contract. At the minute, my main focus is with Alpine. I'm fully on board with the team. We know what we signed for, that's what I'm fully working on.Pierre Gasly said as reported by express.co.uk
The Grand Prix winner has his whole focus on his current campaign with the team. Though, not accepting such claims, Gasly would be keen on landing up a seat with Mercedes.
The Frenchman would be giving his all this season in a bid to move to Brackley. Despite that, there are a lot of contenders for a place with Mercedes such as Fernando Alonso. Thus, it would be revealed later that who succeeds to secure a place with the German manufacturer.
