Miami GP shatters all records in US TV history

F1's growing popularity in the States

Miami GP was one of the most glamorous events in the history of motor sports. We saw celebrities from all the around the world coming to watch the event and the race definitely did live up to the hype that was created well before it. We all know that the FIA is doing its level best to take the sport to another level after what was a dull period for Formula 1 before it the last season came along.

There have been a couple of reasons behind the drastic and sudden rise in the success of Formula 1. One has definitely been the kind of season we had last year which saw Max Verstappen pip the seven time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, for his maiden title. This was the need of the hour as people wanted to see the monopoly break at the top of the grid which was enjoyed by Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

The other reason has been the Netflix series, ‘Drive to Survive’, which has been influential in changing the perception of Formula 1 from being a rich man’s sport to being extremely popular amongst the youth. But still work needed to be done to tap the untapped markets like US and it feels like the FIA has hit a home run by organizing the first Miami GP. The race broke all records in the history of US TV history.
