Mick Schumacher, the Mercedes reserve driver, is on the sidelines after getting axed by the Guenther Steiner-led Haas F1 team at the end of the 2022 F1 season. While he is eager to make a roaring return to the grid next year, he has admitted that he was not properly supported during his time at Haas.
Mick Schumacher, during the 2022 F1 season, was under the pump to get a new deal done by putting in strong performances. However, the German could not perform as per the expectations of Guenther Steiner and was thus shown the exit door to make room for versatile racer Nico Hulkenberg.
While recently talking about his two years with the Kannapolis-based Haas F1 team, he told formu1.uno, “I can see now how it should be. My two years [in F1] didn’t show me that. [You cannot] assume a driver will perform at his best if you don’t support him in the right way. People will never hand you the flowers; you have to pick them yourself. I know that now.”
“I now feel very ready to attack again and to show what I can really do.” Looking at the comments of the German, it is pretty clear that while he is a bit dejected with how his two years panned out at Haas, he is looking forward to what’s ahead and ardently believes, that he is fully ready to drive in F1 again.
Mick Schumacher’s take on a potential return to the grid in 2024
While Mick Schumacher feels his two years with Haas F1 could have gone better, he is determined to find a racing seat in the upcoming years and while especially dwelling on his prospects for 2024, he said, “There isn’t much movement at the moment. Many drivers are already set. Getting into Formula 1 was the first goal. The second goal, becoming World Champion, is still open.”
The 24-year-old has admitted that most of the teams are set with their driver lineups for next year and there is no significant movement in the driver market. However, despite this fact, Schumacher is keeping a positive outlook and ardently feels he’ll get a racing seat in the sport quite soon.
While Mick Schumacher is desperate to get a racing seat in F1, his way toward getting it could be paved by the Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff. The Austrian has a lot of pull on the F1 grid, and his strong ties with Williams could help Schumacher get a seat on the team for the 2024 season.
