Mick Schumacher was ousted from Formula 1 after two underwhelming seasons with the Haas F1 team. The German driver switched to a reserve driver role for Mercedes last season and will continue his duties at Brackley. Additionally, the 24-year-old will race for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. Now, Schumacher reckoned that he was hopeful of returning to F1 in light of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.

The German driver mentioned that he was still interested in racing in Formula 1 again. Mick Schumacher claimed that the driver market has been busy in the past few days, signaling Hamilton’s shock Ferrari switch for 2025. Moreover, the 24-year-old highlighted that this could bring him a potential opportunity to rejoin the grid next year.

In any case, my eye is still pretty much on Formula 1. Because a lot of fuss has now entered the driver's market, one or the other door may open,

Schumacher could be one of the contenders to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. The 24-year-old has established a good relationship with Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff. However, the Silver Arrows have made it clear that a decision will not be made soon. Rather, the Brackley-based team will take time to find a suitable driver to fill in the shoes of the seven-time world champion.

Is Mick Schumacher a real option for Mercedes?

Mick Schumacher made his debuted F1 debut in 2021 at Haas alongside Russian driver Nikita Mazepin. The German driver outperformed Mazepin significantly in their rookie season. However, the 24-year-old struggled massively against Kevin Magnussen in 2022.

Schumacher made multiple errors which cost Haas financially. Guenther Steiner claimed this figure to be over $2 million in his book. Subsequently, the 24-year-old was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg last season. Certainly, Mercedes could have doubts over Mick Schumacher’s consistency if he were to race for a top team in F1.

It is clear that Mick Schumacher is as hungry as ever to return to Formula 1. However. the Silver Arrows might not be willing to sign the German straightaway. Perhaps, the 24-year-old could find a seat at a team like Williams if Alex Albon is chosen by Mercedes to replace Lewis Hamilton. As such, fans would be looking forward to seeing how things pan out for Schumacher in the coming months.
