The Aston Martin F1 team has made a significant step during the 2023 F1 season, but the bulk of the scoring for the team has been done by the 2-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso. Lance Stroll has struggled to get to grips with the AMR23, and amidst his struggles, Mike Krack has backed him to perform at the same level as his teammate.

Lance Stroll’s ongoing campaign got off to a shaky start after he was fast-tracked into the team following his wrist injury. Since then, while Fernando Alonso has gone from strength to strength, Stroll, on the other hand, has massively struggled and has been outperformed by the Spaniard quite easily.

Seeing the Canadian’s lackluster form, the rumor mill has been going haywire and while talking about Stroll’s woes, Mike Krack said, as reported by Formu1a.uno, “When you look at the qualifying session, in Q1 at Zandvoort, for example, there was nothing between them. I don’t think that there is any particular characteristic that is different for him than for Fernando. He can be just the same [as Alonso].”

We had all the discussions when Sebastian [Vettel] joined the team, and that went pretty well. So there is no reason why it should not be the same.” Krack has made it known that Aston Martin has full faith in the abilities of Lance Stroll to do well for the team and also, at the same time, match the exploits of his legendary teammate.

While Mike Krack has backed Lance Stroll to improve his F1 performances in comparison to Fernando Alonso, it is not going to be an easy thing to do considering the sensational form that the 42-year-old has shown so far in the ongoing campaign. Alonso is easily among the top 5 drivers of the 2023 F1 season.

As things stand, Alonso is third in the Drivers Championship and has so far managed to score a brilliant 170 points and has also amassed a highly impressive 7-podium finishes. Stroll, on the other side of the team garage, has only contributed 47 points to Aston Martin’s points tally so far.

However, while several people have sidelined the idea of Lance Stroll doing special things alongside Fernando Alonso, one can not forget how well Stroll has performed in the past. He was very good during his late Racing point days, and if he can get on top of the AMR23 in the upcoming races, who knows, he might be able to match his teammate.
