Mike Krack lauds Sebastian Vettel for Aston Martin’s 2023 success
The 4-time World Champion departed from the team and retired at the conclusion of the 2022 season
Mike Krack and Sebastian Vettel
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has given Sebastian Vettel plaudits for the team’s significant improvement this season. The German raced for the British team in 2021 and 2022 and concluded his illustrious 15-year-long career, but his impact on the team’s development has not gone unrecognized.
This leap in development has allowed the Silverstone team to achieve three consecutive podiums and maintain an admirable race pace in all. Krack stated, “I think he has his merits in where the car is today. Because we had many, many meetings last year where he gave us a hint: ‘Do this or do that or do not do this with the new car’. So, I think he has his merits in here.”
With Vettel’s guidance from a driver’s perspective, the suggestions he made were integrated into the new car, which displays good reliability, performance, and potential. When inquired on whether he thought Vettel had retired too early, Mike Krack responded with, “Well, if you’ve retired too early or too late, that is something you have to ask him. And then we have to respect the decision that he took.” The team currently holds second in the Constructor standings.

Sebastian Vettel’s replacement Fernando Alonso basks in success in 2023
Two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso has been immense in the initial phase of the season. The veteran has secured 3 consecutive podiums, and did so with the same passion and vigor we always associate with him. The Australian GP showcased his brilliant racecraft and composure yet again.
With red flags waving during the penultimate lap, Alonso had lost several positions due to a collision. However, he was quick-witted with his suggestions and references to the past that he made to the team over the radio to find a way to regain the position. Upon review of the situation, Fernando was reinstated to P3, which resulted in another podium.
Mike Krack also hailed Alonso, stating, “That’s typical. He remembers every race that he has done and what happened, and what we should look at. It’s pretty impressive! In this case, it was quite recent with Silverstone, so we also remembered it but, had we not, he would have reminded us quickly.”
Sebastian Vettel, despite his contributions and suggestions to the new car, won’t be able to enjoy the same success as his former adversary Fernando Alonso. Nonetheless, Fernando Alonso finds himself in 3rd in the Driver’s Championship trailing only the pair from Red Bull. He stands just 24 points behind championship leader Max Verstappen.
