Monaco GP: Ferrari escape penalty after changing Carlos Sainz’s gearbox in lead up to the race
Carlos Sainz
Just as we are getting ready for the much-awaited Monaco Grand Prix, that will take place in a few hours’ time in the Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo, we have got some sizzling news from the Ferrari garage. This news will definitely add to the ever-increasing excitement for today’s race and it might even have a big part to play in whatever happens today.
Yesterday, we saw the Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz put up a great performance as they secured a front row start for the Scuderia. Last time we saw the two take the front row, we were in Miami, for the first-ever Miami Grand Prix.
With a powerful F1-75 to drive, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz stand a huge chance to get the 1-2 finish that they had wanted ever since Red Bull got the same results in Ferrari’s home grand prix in Imola.
Ferrari decides to change Carlos Sainz’s gearbox just before the Monaco Grand Prix is set to start
While Carlos Sainz had managed to take the opportunity of Red Bull facing reliability issues with their RB-18 during the initial few races of this season, the Spaniard ran into some bad luck later on, as he could not even finish the races in most of the Grand Prix’s that have happened recently.
Carlos Sainz’s purple patch was gone right before the beginning of the Australian Grand Prix. In Melbourne and Imola, the Spaniard could not even score a single point for the team as he had to retire from both the races. But he did make a comeback in Miami as he scored a podium finish there. Again, in his home Grand Prix, he scored a P4 with 12 points for his team.
And now, going into the Monaco Grand Prix, we have got news that Ferrari have decided to change the gearbox of Carlos Sainz a few hours before the race. In a team statement, it said, “We have decided to change the gearbox as a precaution. Naturally, the parts of the rear end that were damaged have also been changed. These changes are penalty-free.”
Now, it remains to be seen how this plays out for the Spaniard in a race where the Tifosi are expecting some great results from him.
