Last weekend, fans got to witness the action-filled Italian GP at the Monza circuit. The race had its fair share of drama with an unpredictable end due to the retirement of Daniel Ricciardo a few laps before the chequered flag dropped which brought out the safety car and the race ended under it. Charles Leclerc wasn’t happy about it but Red Bull and Max Verstappen were overjoyed as they literally cruised to victory in Ferrari’s home ground which did upset a lot of the Tifosi.

Although this wasn’t the only drama-filled incident that occurred during the race weekend as many fans posted on socials media about the treatment that they received from the Tifosi. Monza which was the home Grand Prix of Ferrari was a risky place to be for Verstappen fans as
they faced abuse from other individuals present among the crowd attending the Italian GP. There were reports of the fans at the circuit singing demeaning chants directed at Max Verstappen and his family too.

That atmosphere was pretty bad for Verstappen fans as they risked being assaulted or harassed by the Ferrari fans after the race came to an unexpected end. Max Verstappen won the race behind the safety car while Charles finished P2 which enraged the locals. Prior to the podium ceremony, Max was interviewed about the race where Italian fans chose to boo him. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto claimed that the insults were not directed at the Dutch driver but instead at the FIA for how the ending of the race was handled. The circuit further issued a statement on this.

They further went on to talk about their plan moving forward. “Autodromo Nazionale Monzaexpresses its regret for the discomfort of those who, among the many fans who flocked to the last Italian GP, would have encountered certain in conveniences. The structure and its people have lavished their best efforts to realise an event that exceeded all attendance records, going beyond all estimated forecasts,” they said.

“For Autodromo Nazionale Monza the fans’ experience is a priority and for this reason a rigorous verification has been initiated also with the partners to ascertain and investigate the origin of any criticalities and take consequent measures so that this does not happen again in the future,” they continued.

This brings up a major issue that has taken place in Formula 1 all the time and seems to be taken very lightly following the events that took place in Monza. Bullying and harassment of fans in any form should be encountered immediately and the individuals deemed guilty should be kicked out of the track and denied access to any future events in the sport.
