Haas racing team has been having a very difficult time this season. The team clenches the last spot in the constructors championship with a mere 12-point stint this season. The team faced multiple point-less races and saw the drivers unable to clear Q1 from qualifying sessions. One of Haas’ drivers Nico Hulkenberg has now urged the team to do something about the difficult situation that the team is currently in.
The German talked about the lack of updates to the VF-23 and claimed that the drivers are ‘paying a price’ due to it. Hulkenberg also claimed that the current state of the team should be a ‘wake-up call’ for the people in the factory.
It's inevitable. We're paying a price for not bringing upgrades, for not finding performance, hopefully it is a wake-up call to everybody in the factory because at this rate, you just can't compete in F1.Christian Horner told media including racingnews365.com.
At the Mexican GP, The 36-year-old racer recalled the old spec of the car at the beginning of the season and claimed that the car was more competitive in the low speed. He also felt that the older spec of the car would’ve worked better at the Mexican circuit. Subsequently, Hulkenberg claimed that the future within Haas is a ‘one-way street’.
Guenther Steiner praised Nico Hulkenberg in his 200th race start
The team boss Guenther Steiner was vocal about his appreciation of the 36-year-old racer for his 200th race start at the Mexican GP. The German nearly scored points at the Mexican circuit if it weren’t for the red flag race restart. The boss exclaimed that Nico was in a great position and the driver had the potential to score points.
Due to an unfortunate accident with the other Haas racer Kevin Magnussen, the race was shifted to a restart under the red flag. Steiner added that Hulkenberg couldn’t conserve his tires in the last stint due to the restart. Nevertheless, the boss added that the whole team performed well and Nico drove fantastically to try and get something.
With three more races on the calendar, an uprising trend in terms of points seems highly unlikely for the American Team. Despite the underwhelming results, the team shows faith in the development crew and is hopeful for scoring better results in the upcoming races.
