The McLaren F1 team has taken the F1 World by storm since the British Grand Prix, and the hype around them is at an all-time high. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have put the upgraded MCL60 through the writer in recent races, and the 2016 World Champion, Nico Rosberg, believes that the former can score a win this year.
The 2023 F1 season has so far been dominated by the Milton-Keynes-based Red Bull team, with Max Verstappen perfectly leading the team’s charge. However, seeing the massive development made by McLaren on the MCL60, Nico Rosberg ardently feels that Lando Norris can score a Grand Prix win during the ongoing campaign.
While talking about the same, he told Sky Sports, “Lando is like a champion in the making, he’s world-class, he’s incredible as a young driver. So, it’s unbelievable what they’ve done. I hope they understand it 100 percent themselves – sometimes I’m not too sure if they really understand everything because these aerodynamics are just so complex with the ground effect. It’s very, very difficult to fully understand in the wind tunnel.“
He added, “It’s such an impressive technical development that they’ve done during the season. That’s so unusual for a team to make such a massive jump, from like 13th to second, like it’s incredible what they’ve… and they’re challenging for the race win now, it’s coming, that race win.“
Lando Norris is McLaren’s most prized possession
While Nico Rosberg has showered massive applause on McLaren for the massive upturn in their form, the fact can’t be ignored that the papaya-colored team has got a gem in its ranks in the form of Lando Norris. The Brit is considered a sensational driver and has every now and then proved why that is the case.
Since McLaren’s upgraded MCL60 made its debut at Silverstone, Lando Norris has been able to put the car through the wringer continuously, moreover, he has also been able to amass two podium finishes for the team. McLaren is currently fifth in the standings and is coming in hot in pursuit of the teams ahead of them.
The ongoing campaign is 12 rounds down, and the F1 extravaganza has reached its last stop before the start of the summer break. The 2023 Belgian Grand Prix is just around the corner, and considering the performance output of the much-improved MCL60, Lando Norris and Co. would eye a podium finish again.
