Nico Rosberg has become infamous in the F1 paddock since he retired from the sport in 2016. The former F1 champion has been known for the ‘Rosberg Curse’ where whoever the German supports for a race wins before a Grand Prix ends up having a miserable race. Rosberg finally spoke up on his curse, causing Ferrari to lose the Italian GP.

The 38-year-old has posted a selfie on the day of the Italian GP. The caption said, “Forza Ferrari.Unfortunately, the ‘Rosberg Curse’ struck again as polesitter Carlos Sainz failed to match Max Verstappen. Verstappen went on to claim a record-breaking tenth consecutive race victory at Monza. Subsequently, Nico Rosberg was asked to clarify this picture.

The German tried to explain that he took a selfie in a neutral background to prevent any mishaps from his curse. He told Sky Sports, “I even tried this weekend, I tried to do a neutral background because I thought I didn’t want to cause any problems.” However, guest YouTuber Aldas pointed out that Rosberg has written ‘Forza Ferrari’ as the caption. The 38-year-old defended his words by mentioning that it was the Scuderia’s home race at Monza.

The former F1 champion stated that fans wanted to see Ferrari win in Italy. However, Rosberg has learned his lesson and understood that he cannot use such captions going forward. The German continued, “Yeah okay Forza Ferrari because the whole weekend was about that and all of us are wishing for Ferrari to win. so I thought. Yeah so maybe I’m not even allowed to do that then apparently.”

Fans have asked the former Mercedes driver to strike Max Verstappen with his curse. Initially, Rosberg mentioned that trying to use the curse on purpose on the championship leader would not be fair. However, the 38-year-old decided to try and take a selfie with Verstappen before the start of the next race to stop the Red Bull driver’s winning streak.

Nico Rosberg concluded, “I understand that I should be taking a picture [with Max Verstappen] but that would be a bit aggressive if I then take a picture with Max before a race that would not be cool I think. But I’ll do it anyway!” Perhaps the German driver has recognized that he must try and use his power in a way that can satisfy F1 fans.

Thus, Nico Rosberg has clarified that the ‘Rosberg Curse’ was unintentional at the Italian GP. The German driver did not want to stop Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz from winning his team’s home race. However, the 38-year-old has learned from this incident and might try to use this curse to his advantage and stop Max Verstappen’s dominant run of victories.
