Max Verstappen has clearly been the most dominant (and the best) driver in 2022, and him breaking the record (was 13, now is 15) for the most wins in a season is ample proof of that. Since Imola, and especially since the summer break, he’s been almost unstoppable, but that does not mean that the season has been dull, by any means.

There have been many great moments (apart from those associated with Verstappen, of which there is an abundance) Ferrari’s 1-2 in Bahrain, Mercedes’ 1-2 in Brazil, Carlos Sainz’s win in Silverstone – that whole race was a highlight, really, are notable examples. Of course, if you are not a Red Bull fan, you are far less likely to have loved the season, but that is to be expected.

The real problem for fans (and the sport) would start if this domination continues for years on end – like Michael Schumacher in the early 2000s, or Lewis Hamilton from 2014-2020. But for now, one can only praise Verstappen and Red Bull for what they’ve achieved. Speaking about the season finale in Abu Dhabi on Sky Sports’ Any Driven Monday, Nico Rosberg echoed this view.

Rosberg said, as per Planet F1, that the races remained ‘thrilling’ despite Verstappen’s domination: “I thought it was a fantastic weekend once again. And generally the whole season has just been so exciting, even though Verstappen was so dominant, somehow in the races they were still always thrilling to watch. And the same again in Abu Dhabi.”

Nico Rosberg: Farewell dinner for Sebastian Vettel was ‘really cool’

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 20 also marked the end of the glorious career of Sebastian Vettel. While the German hasn’t ruled out a return, for now, he is officially retired, for all intents and purposes. He gave a good account of himself in his final season and the final race, even if he would have liked for the results to be better.

Nico Rosberg felt it was ‘really nice’ how the F1 world came together to make sure that Vettel had a good farewell: “It was really nice how the whole community, the whole world came together to wish him a wonderful farewell. So much was done [for him] and all the drivers met up to have a farewell dinner [the first ‘drivers dinner’ since the 2016 Chinese GP] on the Thursday night. That was really cool.”

Rosberg went on to describe Vettel as one of the greatest of all time, and said that Formula 1 will surely miss the four-time world champion a lot as ‘we all love watching him’. Indeed, Vettel is a great ambassador of the sport and will be sorely missed by the fans, just as much for his personality as he will be for his driving chops.
