Sergio Perez’s situation with Red Bull has been spiraling for some time now. While he has been struggling to even get into the top five, Max Verstappen has already bagged the WDC title. His contract ends in 2025. However, several reports have suggested that he has already been given an ultimatum by Red Bull. Recently, Nico Rosberg has named his ideal candidate who can replace Perez in 2024.
According to Rosberg, Williams’ Alex Albon will be the perfect fit for Red Bull. Albon has turned a lot of heads this season and is a hot property for the 2025 transfer market. The Thai driver has taken 23 points this season, which is a major improvement from his four-point run last year. His pace on straights has also been impeccable. However, Rosberg said that his contract with Williams might prove to be a big obstacle.
“Albon would also be a dream candidate actually for the Red Bull mother team for next year to replace Sergio Perez but unfortunately, as Helmut Marko was saying, Albon is locked in with a long-term contract there at Williams,” Rosberg told Sky F1. (H/T: PlanetF1)
Albon is the sole points scorer for his team this year. His teammate, Logan Sargeant, has been seen greatly struggling in his rookie year. As Albon keeps dishing out good performances, it will be interesting to see where he ends up after Williams.
Nico Rosberg believes it will be difficult for Logan Sargeant to retain his seat with Williams in 2024
Logan Sargeant is having one of the worst seasons on the grid this year. With just five races remaining, he is yet to score his first Formula One points. In fact, he is overtaken by AlphaTauri’s Liam Lawson, who was brought in to substitute Daniel Ricciardo for a few races. With many doubting his capabilities, Nico Rosberg has also given his take on the situation.
Rosberg said that Sargeant’s performances have put him in a difficult spot. Added to that, Albon’s impressive season also puts more pressure on the American. According to Rosberg, Sargeant has to prove himself to the team this season if he wishes to race for them next year.
“Logan is another one of those drivers who’s on shaky ground and really needs to prove himself, but he’s been making too many mistakes so honestly I think it’s going to be difficult for him to retain that seat for next year, especially because Albon is doing such a phenomenal job,” said Sargeant.
