“So much different to NASCAR,” Lewis Hamilton channels his inner Daniel Ricciardo as he educates fans about F1
Lewis Hamilton has great admiration for NASCAR but wants fans to know that its different from Formula One.
Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton, the British racing driver, is one of the most successful people in Formula One without any doubt. He has set plenty of records and won multiple world titles. Hamilton’s name has grown widely over the years in proportion to the sport’s popularity. It might not come as a surprise if people think of the name “Lewis Hamilton” when they hear of Formula One. This is especially the case with the new fan base.
Recently, Daniel Ricciardo appeared on the US talk show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. He spoke about the sport’s popularity in the US and around the world, it has grown significantly over the course of time. One of the biggest reasons for this is the Netflix series “Drive to Survive”. This has contributed majorly to its popularity, especially in the US, where people are familiar with NASCAR.
Sir Lewis Hamilton discussed this subject. Though he admitted that he had a limited experience with NASCAR, he’s never failed to express his admiration for the sport. However, while answering the question of Formula One’s popularity in the US, the Briton spoke to UBS, Mercedes sponsor, “It really skyrocketed the sport into a different realm. Now, all of a sudden, you got all these amazing sporting fans in the United States and [they] are now starting to catch on and get excited about it. That’s refreshing for me”.
Lewis Hamilton wants fans to understand the difference between NASCAR and Formula One
Hamilton now finds it refreshing because Americans understand the sport better, which wasn’t the case earlier. The seven-time world champion brought out his cheeky side and went, “They’re like ‘oh, is that NASCAR?’ And I’m like ‘no, it’s so much different to NASCAR!” He added that it is easier for him now to explain that he is a Formula One driver in the states.
Though Hamilton has great respect for NASCAR and thinks it is a brilliant form of racing, he pointed out that it is very different from Formula One. The cars are completely different to start with, Formula One has high-tech cars that are based on high-level technology and takes place all around the world. NASCAR, on the other hand, takes place in the US, and the cars are based on production vehicles.
The seven-time world champion praised both the sports and their unique differences. It’s time for the champion to get back to duty, Mercedes AMG Petronas are launching their car on 15th February. Toto Wolff, George Russell, and Mick Schumacher will all be present for the unveiling of the W14. The live stream will be available on social media channels.
