“No, that’s part of Formula 1,” Nico Hulkenberg shows little to no sympathy for Mick Schumacher as he replaces him at Haas

Mick Schumacher and Nico Hulkenberg have emerged as the two contenders for the Haas F1 seat

During the run up to the Abu Dhabi GP, Nico Hulkenberg was announced as a Haas driver for the 2023 season where he would replace Mick Schumacher and race alongside Kevin ‘Suck my b*lls’ Magnussen. This did not come as much of a shock to the fans due to constant rumours flaring about this pairing. However, the German Veteran doesn’t feel bad for putting his fellow countryman out of a seat for next season.

It isn’t the best situation for Mick Schumacher since he has been replaced at Haas with a 35 year old driver. With this change coming so late into the season, there was little to no time for the youngster to negotiate a way back into the sport with another team. As a result of this, Mick will have to leave F1 after competing in it for just 2 years.

Nico Hulkenberg on the other hand will finally be coming back into the sport after having to part ways with Renault in 2019. Even after that, the German was still very active in the sport and rose to the occasion when a substitute driver was needed. His performances were very impressive to a point where it became clear that this driver needs to be in the sport.

Nico Hulkenberg doesn’t feel sorry for Mick Schumacher

The Veteran F1 driver had little to no remorse for putting Mick out of a seat for 2023. When asked about it, he explained that this is the norm in the sport and that it shouldn’t be taken personally. Nico himself has gone through the exact same process. So it makes sense to see him having no remorse at all when asked about this particular situation. Here is what he told Autobild when asked if he feels sorry about it.

“No, that’s part of Formula 1. We are all fighting for our careers. Many drivers have been replaced by another driver with more experience. Whether that is two more years or 10 is irrelevant. That’s how it goes in Formula 1,” he said.

Nico Hulkenberg is also of the opinion that he can get better results for the team compared to Michael Schumacher’s son. “It is a team with a lot of potential,” he said. 2021 was very difficult for them. This year they fought back and finished eighth. And I see room for improvement. I think there are things we can do better as a team. I’m here because I want to find out. Also for myself, for my own career. That’s why we came together,” he continued.

Nico Hulkenberg started talks with Haas and Guenther Steiner in the summer where he relied on statistics and previous results that would help him make the cut. With a really good rap sheet and a bunch of super sub appearances under his belt, he was able to convince the guys there that he was the better option. Even team principal Steiner went on to justify his decision saying that the team needed an experienced driver instead of a rookie with not much under his belt.
