“Nothing serious,” Lewis Hamilton clarifies air surrounding Canadian GP participation due to worsening back issues

Lewis Hamilton was chosen as the driver of the day for the second time in 3 races. The last one came in Spain where we recovered from the back of the grid to finish P5. But this drive was more impressive as the seven time world champion had to battle through pain to secure P4. Toto Wolff in a pre qualifying interview said that Mercedes will struggle in the next two weeks because of their porpoising and bouncing issues.

Despite all of their woes, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have yet again found a way to register some valuable points. The porpoising was severely worse in Baku as compared to any other track because of those two extra long straights. Therefore, Mercedes must be delighted with the result which has taken some pressure off them as we prepare for the Canadian GP in less than a week’s time.

One thing that would have given Mercedes a headache would have the physical condition of Lewis Hamilton as he stepped out of the car after the race. The Brit, because of his back pain due to the bouncing, had to sit on the halo to take a breather before he could completely got out of the car and hobbled his way into the paddock. This had left Mercedes crew concerned and wondering if he would be fit for the next race or not.

Toto Wolff had confirmed that Lewis Hamilton’s injury looked bad and it’ll be early to take a call. He said, “Yeah, definitely. I haven’t seen him and I haven’t spoken to him afterwards, but you can see this is not muscular anymore.”

“I mean, this goes properly into the spine and can have some consequences.”

But Lewis Hamilton has now come out to clarify that he’ll be most likely be fit for the Canadian GP. He posted saying, “Back is a little sore and bruised but nothing serious thankfully. I’ve had acupuncture and physio with ang and am on the way to my team to work with them on improving.”

This has to be a relief for the Mercedes team who can ill-afford to lose their star driver at a time when they have so many problems in relation to the development of the car. We wish Lewis Hamilton a speedy recover so that we can see him sprinkle his magic at the Canadian GP.
