Nyck De Vries, the reigning Formula E world champion, had expressed his desire to make a move to F1 but it seems that it’s not going to happen for him any time soon. The Dutch driver is the test driver for Mercedes but with both seats firmly occupied by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, the chances of him getting an opportunity are pretty slim. The next best alternative for him was McLaren.

With speculations around the future of Daniel Ricciardo, there were rumors about Nyck de Vries as a potential replacement. But, recently, Zak Brown clarified that Ricciardo will stay with the team till 2023 and therefore, that door has also been shut down. During all this while, de Vries also tested for Williams but there hasn’t been any response and it looks Oscar Piastri leads that race to potentially replace Nicholas Latifi.

Nyck de Vries is 27 now and has made it clear that he cannot afford to wait for this long to participate in F1 and will be making a return to Formula E and is also to drive in World Endurance Championship, simultaneously. What this means he’ll have to find a team and Maserati looks interested in him and Toyota looks like the front runner to sign him up for the WEC.

Earlier this month he had clarified that he isn’t concerned about speculations around his F1 future and was just interested in learning. “I’m highly motivated and committed to achieving what we [are trying] to do,” said De Vries.

“I really care about our sport and I have a lot of passion for what we do. So regardless of my future, I obviously want to win and defend the championships.”

“There are obviously a lot of rumours and people like to talk about it, but I’m living in the present. And we are in Jakarta now, and we still have eight races to go to make sure it comes our way.”

Nyck De Vries is going through his prime years as a driver and needs to full advantage of that in any category because we all that the time span of a motor sport driver is limited.
