Max Verstappen’s unabashed and hilarious comments throughout the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend
The opening day of the Las Vegas GP weekend ended horribly as the FP1 session was cancelled after 8 mins of action. A loose drain cover hit Carlos Sainz’s car beneath the floor and cause major damage to the Spaniard’s Ferrari. 30 more drain covers were spotted after this incident and the FP1 session was called off, what followed was a five and a half hour gap with zero on-track action at the Grand Prix.Following these shameful turn of events, the spectators were made to leave the grandstands as FP2 finally got underway without the presence of its loyal fans.
This awful start to the much awaited Grand Prix weekend echoes the comments that the Champion Max Verstappen has been making about the inaugural race. Verstappen began his onslaught over the ‘show’ that Formula 1 put-up in conjunction with the race much before the opening day mismanagement. The Dutchman had previously labelled the entire Grand Prix as ‘99 percent show and 1 percent sport’. Verstappen also hilariously compared the Las Vegas GP and Monaco GP.
Monaco, I think, is Champion’s League. This is National League. It’s not about the singers. We are just standing up there, looking like a clown.
He also had a sharp remark for the spectators only turning up at the circuit to drink and have fun rather than focus on the race, “I can go to Ibiza & get completely shitfaced & have a good time.” Despite his verbal and hilarious foray against the Las Vegas GP organisers, the Dutchman claimed a stellar victory at the street circuit as he etched his name yet another time in the sport’s acclaimed history.
