“One more race and then it’s over,” Fernando Alonso is looking forward to his exit from Alpine following recent events
Fernando Alonso and Alpine had a disaster class in the Brazil GP sprint as incidents between the two teammates resulted in both of their races getting compromised. It is clear that Alonso got the ‘Ocon experience’ in Interlagos but still managed to finish ahead of the Frenchman in a race that cost them a few points over McLaren. Both the teams are locked in a championship fight for fourth place in the constructors championship.
The Spaniard stated that he cannot wait to swap his ride for next season as the penultimate grand prix weekend of the year commences. Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon came into contact two times during the sprint where Nando has to pit due to damage. Due to this issue. he ended up last on the leaderboard just after a few laps had gone by. With both the Alpine drivers racing each other so hard, any chances of getting points on Saturday were lost.
To add fuel to the fire, Fernando Alonso had been slapped with a 5 second penalty later on which demotes him further down the grid as he will start the race from 18 place. This has not been the greatest of weekends so far for the French outfit. After the contact, the Spaniard when off on the radio almost instantly. This is what the Alpine driver had to say about the situation as he talked with Viaplay.
Fernando Alonso isn’t in an ideal situation with the French team
Here is what the soon to be Ex Alpine driver had to say about his experience over the season. “Far from ideal obviously when you’re fighting with your teammate. It’s only one more race after this and then it’s over, so I’m very much looking forward to Abu Dhabi. I was almost in the wall in Jeddah, also in Budapest at the start, now this, so yeah… Nothing more to say about it, it’s only one more race,” he said.
The Alpine driver however went on to acknowledge the pace of the car as he managed to overtake some people even after going dead last after his pit stop. Fernando Alonso has amassed a total of 71 points till now in this season as we come into the penultimate round of the season. For a not so young individual, we’d say that the Spaniard is doing pretty well so far. 2023 will be the ultimate decider for the two time world champion.
