“One of the best moves I’ve ever seen”: Jenson Button showers praise on Sebastian Vettel’s last-lap stunt to overtake Magnussen at the US GP

Only a few months ago, the entire Formula One community was shaken at the sudden news of Sebastian Vettel announcing his retirement from F1 at the end of this year. While fans of the German racing great have tried to adapt to the fact that their idol will be walking away from the racetracks once the current season is over, Vettel has made sure to dish out some quality racing for them to fawn over.
At the latest United States GP, Sebastian Vettel’s spectacular overtake of Kevin Magnussen has been the talk of the F1 town ever since the tumultuous race took place in Austin, at the Circuit of the Americas. Speaking of the way Vettel charged at the Haas racer during the very last lap of his run to capture the eighth spot, former F1 World Champion and current pundit Jenson Button gave his take on the quality of racing displayed by Sebastian Vettel at COTA last Sunday.

According to the Briton, Seb’s last-lap wheel-to-wheel duel with Kevin Magnussen was a “brave” attempt and “one of the best moves” he has ever seen. Consequently, frenzied fans voted for Sebastian Vettel to be awarded the Driver of the Day award for his fantastic takedown of Danish racer Kevin Magnussen. In Button’s opinion, Seb absolutely deserved the title.
“He’s still a great racer”: Jenson Button refuses to believe Sebastian Vettel’s form has disappeared after his US GP drive

While Sebastian Vettel was virtually unbeatable during his years at Red Bull from 2010 to 2013 when he attained four consecutive World Championships, the downfall of the German occurred as soon as he moved to Ferrari. He could never get back to his winning form which he displayed during the first half of the decade, and finally, Sebastian switched teams to go to Aston Martin, where his performance declined even further.
Now, even though several people have suggested that Seb’s form has disappeared, Jenson Button said, βIf heβs in the right place and he has a car under him that he likes, heβs still a great racer.β This came as a response to Sebastian Vettel’s fierce wheel-to-wheel with Kevin Magnussen that ultimately gave him P8 in the US GP over the Danish racer. In the end, Vettel got P7, after Fernando Alonso dropped to P14 as he landed a 30 second penalty.
