Lando Norris, who was suffering from tonsillitis and a fever, says the Spanish Grand Prix was “one of the hardest races” he has ever participated in. He still managed to score points in the race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. “Today was tough. I was feeling really unwell before the race as I’m suffering with tonsillitis, and that, in combination with the high temperatures, made this one of the hardest races I’ve ever done. I’ve been a bit on the backfoot this weekend as most of my energy has been spent fighting off this illness,” said the McLaren driver.

The 22-year-old driver went on to talk about how he was forced to miss a lot of the engineering sessions due to tonsillitis, and that he wasn’t that prepared for this Grand Prix as he could’ve been. “With that in mind, I’m really pleased to have come out of the race with decent points for the team,” said Norris.
With his fourth top-ten finish of the 2022 Formula One season, the Briton is seventh in the Drivers’ Championship leaderboard with a total of 39 points. McLaren turned up at the Spanish Grand Prix with a slew of car upgrades, ten in total, with Norris lauding the crew for their efforts.

“The team have been working really hard to bring performance to the car, so I’m glad we could take something from the weekend. We’ll look at the data over the next few days, see if there’s any additional performance we can extract from the car and make sure we’re ready to go for Monaco,” added the McLaren driver. McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl praised Norris’ results and stated that the team did not put their driver’s health on the line by having to put him in the car on Sunday.
