Oscar Piastri will be making his F1 debut this season with McLaren. The Australian driver’s debut has been highly anticipated. Piastri has replaced Daniel Ricciardo at the Woking-based team after Ricciardo failed to match Lando Norris. The 21-year-old even publicly refused to drive for Alpine in favor of McLaren. However, Oscar confessed about not having a close relationship with Norris as of now.

The 21-year-old was recently asked if his more experienced teammate gave him any advice. Oscar Piastri denied having received any wise words personally from Norris. He answered, “No, not really is the answer,” PIastri further revealed that the Australian driver had so far not enquired Lando for any such suggestions. He said, “I also haven’t really asked.”

Surprisingly, Piastri mentioned that he and Lando Norris had not had the opportunity to form a close bond so far. Oscar stated, “We’ve not spent that much time together, just some of the marketing activities here at McLaren.” Certainly, the two McLaren drivers will spend more time as the F1 season gets into full swing. However, presently, it seems that the two are not as familiar with one another.

Although Oscar Piastri was optimistic about the working environment at McLaren, the British team has worked with rookie drivers previously, including Lewis Hamilton. Oscar said, “But I think between the other people in the team, my engineers, and stuff like that, there’s a wealth of experience with rookie drivers.” Moreover, the 21-year-old mentioned Norris’s successful career at the British outfit. He continued, “obviously, Lando has come through as a rookie with McLaren.”

Piastri recognized the Woking-based team’s relationship with Norris over the years as a healthy sign for his own F1 debut. Oscar Piastri concluded, “So there’s a lot of people in the team that have shared that journey with him, which is encouraging for me.” Certainly, the Australian driver will work in a positive atmosphere under the leadership of Zak Brown and the new Team Principle, Andrea Stella.

Thus, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have not had the chance to know each other closely for now. However, McLaren would be watching their relationship closely as the British team hopes for harmony within the team. Although, fans do expect to see a healthy bond between the two drivers as the Formula 1 season gets underway. After all, a teammate is also an F1 driver’s first opponent.
