The F1 world was taken by surprise when Lewis Hamilton decided to switch allegiance from Mercedes to Ferrari recently. While the rumors regarding such a move had been floating around the paddock for a day or two, the stakeholders officially announced the move on Thursday and it was confirmed that the seven-time World Champion would be driving for the Scuderia from 2025 onwards. However, the whole announcement might just have been leaked a few days ago by Ferrari’s brand-new sponsor Peroni.

Peroni recently joined the star-studded list of Ferrari sponsors and many believe that they dropped a hint regarding the Lewis Hamilton move during their tie-up announcement. Peroni had revealed a poster as part of their announcement and amidst the plethora of F1 merchandise an old Ferrari car carrying the number ’44’ can be seen in the poster.

This might well have been a nod to the fact that Lewis Hamilton, who has been running the number 44 on his car ever since 2014, would soon be rocking the Scarlet of the Scuderia. However, an alternate theory might be that the number 44 is a tribute to Maurice Trintignant who also ran the same number when he won the 1955 Monaco GP in the Ferrari 625.

However, RacingNews365 confirms, that just two days after the Easter egg appeared on the Peroni poster, Lewis Hamilton announced his shock switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, which has only led to even more theories about whether Peroni knowingly put in a hint regarding the move.

Lewis Hamilton’s switch marks the end of a legendary partnership

In the last few years, the names of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have become extremely synonymous – and quite rightly so. The Brackley outfit, paired with the British driver has managed to etch their names into the F1 history books. After moving from McLaren to a struggling Mercedes in 2013, the Briton took the field by storm after Mercedes came up with one of the most dominant cars in F1 history.

Lewis Hamilton managed to rack up an impressive 6 World Championship titles with the Silver Arrows, 5 of them coming back to back. However, as of now, the team is a skeleton of what they used to be. The last couple of seasons have been a nightmare for Hamilton and the Briton has not managed to claim a single win throughout the two years.

Now, with the move to Ferrari, there’s a new opportunity for Hamilton. There will be a fresh start to his search for the much elusive eighth world championship. Whether the partnership between Ferrari and Hamilton would be anywhere as successful as his Mercedes story, remains to be seen.
