Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly has undergone many changes this year. After being at AlphaTauri for multiple years, the Frenchman left the team and went on to join Alpine for the 2023 F1 season. Gasly was partnered up with past rival Esteban Ocon this year. Looking at the situation of the team, it is clear that there are some problems that need to be solved immediately.

The Alpine F1 team had huge ambitions before signing Pierre Gasly. Their goal was to keep Fernando Alonso who decided to go to Aston Martin instead. After a feud with Oscar Piastri, Alpine decided that Gasly was the next best option. After initially aiming to finish fourth in the championship this year, the Enstone based squad has been bumped down to sixth and eighth in the constructors championship. Aston Martin and McLaren have gone on to outpace the team.

In an interview, here is what Pierre Gasly had to say about the current situation and the 2023 car. “I think it’s consistently trying to chase a bit the balance that I like from it,” Gasly explained. “If anything, it [balance] felt slightly better balanced at the start of the year compared to at the recent events. So we need to figure out whether it’s upgrades related or track or tyres, etc. But there is some work to do. But it seems also quite to be quite a small window to really make it operate at its best” the Frenchman stated.

Ahead of the 2023 Belgian GP race weekend, it was announced that Otmar Szafnauer had been sacked by the team and would not be a part of the team further on. Chief Technical Officer Pat Fry was also announced as the next person who is leaving. Pat got a role with Williams racing. This in turn went on to spring up heads as the hierarchy at the Enstone based squad has taken an interesting turn yet again.

Amongst all the leadership changes within the team, the hierarchy has always left many confused. Alpine seems to have not gotten it right. The drivers have been facing issues with the car reliability and consistency throughout the first half of the season. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are struggling to get the team back to its dominant ways. It will be interesting to see what happens at the upcoming Dutch GP.
